From the ruins of the Italian national team’s dual World Cup absences have risen some famous old club sides, who are enjoying their moment in the sun once again. Napoli are Serie A Champions for the third time and first since the days of Diego Maradona, in 1989/90.

Italian club football now has the opportunity to reassert its dominance in Europe, with a representative to play the final of each of the continent’s three levels of competition. Inter Milan can cap a remarkable era under Simone Inzaghi with an upset over Manchester City in the Champions League final on June 11, while Jose Mourinho’s Roma and Vincenzo Italiano’s Fiorentina are strong chances in the Europa and Europa Conference League finals, respectively.

Adriano Del Monte, authority on Italian football, returns to recap where it’s gone right, and how much silverware can be expected in the coming fortnight.
